It’s personal, it’s enriching, it can change a mood, evoke a memory and shift a challenging day into something better. Years ago, when I was studying theatre, I took a 2 month trip to London to watch, at some of the most revered theatres, some of the most renown artists ‘strut their stuff’. I remember when entering each theatre, how with the music choices made, the mood was set perfectly for each upcoming production.
And so it is with any event, be it uplifting chords before a talk given by an inspirational speaker, or how certain music works to calm and focus a group before a mediation or session of prayer or with wedding music. It reminds us of the potential inherent in the union of the two people being celebrated.
At Carl House we’ve been honored to be present at so many unique and customized unions, each with their own signature twist and wedding music choices. There are of course the many favorites: for ceremonies, ‘Pachelbel’s Canon’ or the first dance favorite, ‘At Last’ by Natalie Cole. We’ve also witnessed bag-pipers, been graced by a Mariachi Band, had an Elvis impersonator rock the house and many more unique and interesting wedding music choices. From live singers, to 13 piece bands, jazz artists or to a new trend, songs customized and written for couples…Let the music play on!
There is no end to the options available to express how we feel about one another, the mood we hope to inspire for our chosen gathering. Much like theatre, wedding music sets the mood and guides us into the experience we hope to provide for others. I tend to agree with Nietzsche!
