There is lots we are celebrating this year at Carl House…foremost, our first full decade in business with lots of plans for growth moving forward. With a solid team of dedicated and passionate professionals with an extraordinary new chef in the ‘wings’, we continue ‘on the grow’ with development plans for our off premise catering, talk with investors for a possible second venue and overnight facilities behind Carl House, expanding our floral division and so much more.

We continue to develop solid relationships with our vendor partners, extraordinary professionals who complete the very special events we develop with you. We’re also planning a variety of events for the public in 2013 including owner BB Webb’s favorite, our Pup and Cat Co. Animal Fund Raiser on Feb. 8th, raising money for the continued education on the care of and fostering of animals in Barrow County. Our wine dinners will take a new twist with a variety of entertainment and dancing to accompany them and themes to make each event unique and fun.

We’re grateful to boast a variety of awards in 2012 including BB Webb’s Barrow County Business Woman of the Year and her selection of one of the top 10 Savvy and Successful Business Women in North Atlanta. In addition, Carl House was thrilled to be selected as 2013 The Knot Magazine- Best of Wedding Venues 5 Star Award, 2012 Best of Gwinnett Magazine, 2012 Wedding Wire Bride’s Choice Award, and 2012 mywedding.com True Love Award.

Like a multi-faceted gemstone, Carl House delivers brilliantly from every angle. Owner BB Webb’s creative inspiration continues to place this award-winning special events and wedding venue in a category all its own.

A genuine piece of Georgia history, Carl House features lavish interiors and a luxury ballroom to accompany its many other amenities on four acres of pristine grounds surrounded by original pastures. Wildly popular for weddings, Carl House also attracts corporate attention for board meetings, training sessions, retreats, annual dinners and more.

New for 2011, Carl House has launched an offsite catering service to complement onsite event packages. Its fresh regional, seasonal cuisine with a southern flair is making quite a statement. Offerings include holiday menu options and packages, buffet trays and box lunches for corporate meetings, full buffets for weddings and other social events throughout the Barrow, Athens and Gwinnett areas.

In July, Webb was chosen into the coveted ranks of Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI), a worldwide society of women dedicated to creating a culture in the community that fosters excellence and promotes the achievement of women in culinary professions through educational and charitable activities. She has worked closely with Executive Chef Michael Deihl from East Lake Golf Club and the team at the benchmark catering firm, Affairs To Remember to develop the new Carl House off-site catering brand.

Personalized attention from the Carl House experts make every customer shine. The ‘wow’ factor comes into play with newly developed trend-setting in-house wedding services such as a photo booth, candy station and gourmet coffee selection at receptions, added to Carl House floral creations, culinary expertise and overall ambiance.

Webb is pleased to report that, “This has been the best business year we’ve experienced since opening in 2003.”

Carl House has holiday festivities planned and hosts wine dinners throughout the year. Looking to the future, Webb is in discussion with investors for ways to expand the Carl House experience with a hotel and shops on its sweeping 30 acres. With a bold, clear vision, Webb and Carl House promise to deliver: Extraordinary. Memorable. Events.

Congratulations Meredith and Nick! Want to hear how the winning couple got engaged? The story, written by Meredith, is posted below!

“A diamond is truly a girl’s best friend whether it is the ring on my left hand or my man coaching first base! Nick and I attended North Georgia College & State University where we both were athletes. Nick was a catcher for the Saint’s baseball team, and I played for the Ladies Saint’s tennis team. Nick and I had a few classes together, but he never noticed me even though I sat behind him in one of our mutual classes. Fast forward to a year later! Nick had already graduated, but became a grad-assistant for the baseball team while working on his masters. Every morning, I would have to walk by the baseball office to attend my morning classes. The best part about that would be the fact I got to see Nick, and little did I know he thought the same. Every once in a while Nick and I would speak as I passed the office. So the fall semester ended and Christmas break began. Nick sent me a message on Facebook asking me about my finals and to see if I was excited about my internship starting in the spring. Nick and I began chatting on the Facebook application. And that’s where the real story begins…

Nick and I began talking on the phone and through text for the next couple of weeks after exchanging numbers. On December 14, 2009, we went on our first date. Nick showed up to the door with flowers. He stole my heart right then because he was the first guy to ever bring flowers on the first date. I knew he was the one on our first date because at dinner he asked if it was ok to say the blessing. He just warmed my heart with those words. Nick told his mom after our first date that he would marry me! Fast-forward 10 months…

Nick asked my parents one night at dinner if he could marry their daughter. Once he got their blessing, the planning began. Nick had it all planned that he would propose on Tuesday, October 19th at the North Georgia baseball field, but those plans changed when coach told them they would be having an inter-squad game on that day. So he had to change his plans really quick. On Saturday, October 16, 2010, my life changed for the best! That morning we were at my apartment packing for the day because Nick said we were having date night. Nick asked me to pack my hair rollers which I thought was really odd, but I did it anyway because he likes my hair curled. That afternoon, we were at his house throwing around the baseball and that’s when the idea occurred to him. While getting ready for dinner, I heard Nick yelling because the shirt he wanted to wear wasn’t working right so I told him to just wear a different one. Of course he said, “No, I want to wear this one”. So he finally got it to work and we were off to dinner. On our way out the door, Nick said coach called and we had to go by the baseball field because the sprinklers were on and they weren’t supposed to be. On our way to the field, Nick pulled out a white box (which I thought was an engagement ring, and I was about to be mad if he was about to propose in the car) which held two charms for my Pandora bracelet. Finally, we got to the field, and Nick got out of the truck (I thought he was just looking at sprinklers) to get everything set up for the engagement. I decided I would call my mom to chat while he was checking every thing out. Nick came up to the truck and asked me to get out and walk on the field with him to see if the field was wet (mind you I’m still on the phone with my mom), but I said no thanks I don’t want to get my shoes wet! Nick said please come walk on it with me, and my mother on the phone said just go but don’t let anything bite you! Little did I know she knew what was happening. We walked around the outside of the infield, but I noticed that the field wasn’t wet at all. I didn’t say anything about it just thought it in my head then, Nick made the comment “I guess the sprinklers weren’t on that long because the field isn’t that wet.” Of course, I bought that story!! Rounding third base, Nick asked me to pick the ball up at home plate while he went to check the sprinklers behind the pitchers mound. Approaching the ball, I noticed it had something written on it. All I could see was the word Will so I thought it was Will’s baseball. As I got closer, I rolled the ball over with my foot and saw it said, “Will you marry me?” As I turned around, I saw that Nick was down on one knee at the pitchers mound. I was screaming “Are you serious?!” and “Is this for real?!” I couldn’t believe that this was really happening. It was the happiest moment of my life!

So we have set our date for September 22, 2012 at the Carl House. I am looking forward to walking across the bridge and seeing my groom standing on the other side. I am excited about having my special day at the Carl House! Like I said before, a diamond is truly a girl’s best friend! See y’all soon!!”

All You Need to Know About Ordering Invitations!

Ordering invitations can be quite a complicated process for brides. When you think about it, we’ve been accustomed to just picking up invitations and envelopes for social events at our local Target or Hallmark store. It has always been assembled for us until now. When it comes time to order invitations for a wedding, there is often confusion over what to include on an invitation, how to word it, and if a reception, RSVP, and accommodation card is really necessary to purchase. I made a quick video to help explain what each part of an invitation is to help y’all figure out what you should and should not include for your wedding. Enjoy!

New Additions To Our Wedding Rental List Are Here!

Carl House is excited to announce that we have new rental items for our brides to use!

It’s a new trend for brides to have bird cages for guests to place cards in on their gift table. No need to order one that you only use once just for the event…we have one available in-house for all clients to use!

Our bird cage from Etsy will have ivory ribbon and a champagne card reading "Cards."

We have also noticed that clients enjoy displaying pictures on their guest book table for friends and family to see during their reception. We now offer a 15” digital photo frame for brides and grooms to show pictures without overloading the guest book table with frames. Just bring in an SD memory card with the pictures loaded on it; the frame will play the pictures in a slideshow for you! No work required!

Plug your SD memory card in and let the slideshow begin!

Want to have one of these items at your next event? Be sure to talk to Kelsey about renting the bird cage or the digital photo frame. Your guests will surely enjoy them!

And the Winners of our Honeymoon Giveaway are…Amy Cash and Sean Wheeler!!

Congratulations to Amy Cash and Sean Wheeler for being selected as the winners of Carl House’s and My Bella Wedding’s honeymoon giveaway! We are so excited that you two will be spending a luxurious four days and three nights at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa in St. Thomas! We spoke with Amy yesterday afternoon to get the scoop on her and her lead singer fiancé…

Amy is a school teacher at Garden Hills in Buckhead, and is very excited to be switching from teaching third grade to kindergarten this coming school year. Sean is a lead singer in a band called The Armory. They are based out of Atlanta, and have toured in the northeast and down the entire east coast.

Amy and Sean met on Valentine’s Day weekend outside of an Atlanta club called Compound. He was there by himself to watch a concert, and she, newly single, was out for a much needed girl’s night. They noticed each other from across the street, and she walked right up to him and said “Hey, you’re kinda cute.” “It was so awkward,” she noted on the phone, “but we’ve been in love since that moment!”

Almost four years after meeting, Sean and Amy were snowed in at their mountain cabin in Jasper, GA this January. Everything was shut down for a week, so the two spent quality time together in the warmth of their home. One day Amy noted that Sean was acting strange, and he announced he was going up to the attic to clean for a while. Amy thought this was odd, and even called Sean’s mom to joke that he was acting strange. A short while later, Sean came downstairs into the kitchen and got down on one knee to propose to Amy.

When asked about her ring, Amy exuded, “I absolutely love it!  Sean and his mom picked it out from my favorite vintage store. It’s from 1902!”

When we asked Amy why she chose Carl House to host her wedding, Amy stated, “I knew as soon as I pulled into the driveway.” She loved the grounds and how excited everyone she met was about helping her plan her wedding. “It’s nice not to feel by myself in the planning process,” Amy noted. She also loves the in-house vendor packages that Carl House offers, making it easier for her to take care of everything at once.

I asked her if she had any plans for her honeymoon previous to winning the My Bella Weddings prize. “We did not,” she responded. “We were wondering how we were even going to be able to afford it all after the wedding!” Amy wanted to make sure that a HUGE “Thank You!” was passed along to My Bella Weddings and Carl House for awarding them the prize. “We are so excited!” she exclaimed.

We are so looking forward to helping you plan your wedding Amy, and hope that you and Sean have a fabulous time on your honeymoon afterwards!!

Royal Wedding Wishes

The Carl House is all a twitter this week as final preparations are underway for the Royal Wedding on Friday morning in London!    Every wedding at our house is a royal wedding, and so it seems fitting that for the rest of this week we are turning over our twitter feed @carlhouse to post all about Kate and William’s official Royal Wedding!   But fret not, our attention may be temporarily diverted to The Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey, but our focus is always on our Carl House Brides & Grooms and making their days just as special.

Book your wedding before the end of April, which means before Saturday this week, and our royal treatment gift to you will be a champagne toast for 100 guests!  Plus you’ll automatically be eligible to win the Four day-Three night stay in St Thomas at the Sugar Bay Resort that we’re giving away to one lucky couple who books before our next Bridal showcase event on June 17, 2011 at CarlHouse.

It’s almost here!!!

Waiting for the birth of a new website is like waiting for (I’m guessing here), a child to be born.  There are sooo many details that MUST be perfect, representative of who we are as a company, as a team, highlighting the RIGHT details to be effective to our readers and folks interested in our venue!

I’ve frankly been working on this one for almost a year.  Sounds crazy, but it’s true and I feel it’s worth the wait. With over 125 photos, easy navigation and descriptions of what we offer that we HOPE will tease and entice you and many others to come visit.

The truth is, we love to put on a party!  In fact, it makes us JUMP for joy!  Stay tuned.  Next week is our due date….and that stork just better be on time…..or Ms. BB may faint with anticipation!!

John Campbell Photography

Please come visit soon!!  We love knocks at our door and we ALWAYS have fresh coffee a’brewin!

Happy New Year everyone!  BB Webb
